I grew up in Overland Park, Kansas, graduating from Blue Valley Northwest High School. I attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado on a track/cross country scholarship but ultimately graduated from the University of Kansas. That said, I have always been a huge Kansas State Wildcats football and basketball fan.
After being exposed to the commercial roofing industry and seeing both the failures and shortcomings of many commercial roofing contractors firsthand, I became extremely driven to build a high degree of trust with my clients and work hard to consistently find innovative ways to provide them value.
I now reside in Spring Hill, Kansas. When I’m not assisting clients, I enjoy smoking meats, reading, spending time with family and friends, watching Kansas State Wildcats sports and working out at the gym.
Full roof replacements can be costly but unfortunately are oftentimes necessary.
There are many low-slope and steep-slope roofing materials available. This includes TPO, PVC, EDPM, asphalt and composite shingles. These options all have their own advantages and drawbacks.
Fluid-applied roof systems, or coatings, can be a cost-effective way of prolonging the lifespan of existing roof systems.
They are minimally invasive, relatively quick to install and have the potential to keep your building watertight for 10-20 years. However, keep in mind not every roof system is a good candidate for coating.
During a roof system’s lifespan, repairs will likely be necessary at some point. We specialize in repairing the following types of roof systems:
Fluid-applied roof systems have become wildly popular over the last decade for their minimal invasiveness and cost savings relative to roof replacements and roof re-covers.
Coatings can be wonderful roof systems, but we have seen countless examples of premature failures due to one simple reason: untreated moisture within the roof’s insulation. To boot, coating manufacturers will always exclude failure due to wet insulation from their product’s warranties. This has left many building owners frustrated with both time and money wasted.
Before we advise you on a course of action with your building’s roof system, we strongly recommend creating a custom moisture map of your roof system. This will precisely identify the problem areas and tell us exactly how to fix them. This often leads to saving customers tens of thousands of dollars or more.
Living in the Midwest, we often face severe weather with both high winds and hail large enough to cause damage. In fact, the Great Plains are not only considered the windiest portion of North America but also produce the highest chances for hail in the country (usually during the late spring and early summer months).
Sometimes the damage is obvious, but more often it takes a trained eye and methodical if not destructive testing to determine whether a roof system has been damaged by wind or hail. Knowing exactly what damage has been caused is vital to understanding what repairs are needed to bring the system back it its pre-storm condition.
There are two different warranties you should focus on when purchasing a new roof system:
Not All Manufacturer Warranties Are Created Equal
Base manufacturer warranties often leave much to be desired in terms of production for your roof system. On TPO installations in particular, we strongly recommend No Dollar Limit (NDL) warranties.
NDL Warranties are effectively iron-clad production for you and your investment into a new roofing system for your building. They offer full coverage (material AND labor) for any leaks arising from not only manufacturing defects but also workmanship. They even cover normal wear and tear, with no dollar value limit for repairs performed under the warranty.
To get an NDL Warranty, the roof system must be installed in strict accordance with manufacturer instructions. When the work is complete, a manufacturer representative will inspect the work and either approve the system or require us to make the repairs needed to earn the warranty. This provides you with a built-in third party to ensure your roof system is installed correctly with quality workmanship.
We assume all responsibility for ensuring the system is installed to specifications and will perform any repairs required for approval at no additional cost to you.
We can also offer NDL Warranties for up to 30 years.
*Please note that all NDL Warranties require routine roof maintenance in order for the warranty to remain in effect
Many building owners incorrectly believe no action is needed until their roof system begins to leak, when in fact 80% of roof leaks are preventable through routine inspections.
The simple act of scheduling yearly roof inspections offers a number of key benefits, all of which can save you money in the long run.
Ultimately, just like with your home or vehicle, being proactive with your building’s roof system will save you thousands of dollars (if not tens or even hundreds of thousands) in the long run. Don’t wait until you start having problems to think about your building’s roof system.
We are happy to help buyers, sellers and their agents with CRE inspections. We conduct thorough inspections and deliver detailed, annotated photo reports identifying any areas of concern with plans of action to address when needed.
We can also provide estimates of the remaining life into the existing roof system as well as budgetary estimates, with the goal of eliminating any unpleasant surprises or unplanned roof-related expenses down the road.
